Training Participant

I want to comply with the Adsafe safeguarding requirements – what are they?

  1. Working With Children Check (or equivalent) – state/territory/country requirement

  2. Adsafe Safer Churches Awareness Training

  3. Adsafe Code of Conduct

I’ve been asked to do my Adsafe Safer Churches Awareness Training and sign a Code of Conduct. How do I go about that?

The Awareness Training and Code of Conduct are available to complete on-line on the Adsafe e-learning portal at: https://elearning.adsafe.org.au/ If you don’t already have an account, click on “not a member? Sign up” at the bottom of the log-in panel.

What is the Awareness Training? How long will it take me to complete?

The Awareness Training is a series of modules designed to educate the learner about why children and people at risk should be protected, understanding abuse and how to respond to it, developing safe leadership in churches and safety planning. At a minimum it will take around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete, but it may take longer depending on your computer literacy and reading ability. The Training need not be completed all in one session. Once your Training is launched, you can “exit course” at any time, return later and take up where you left off.

What is the Code of Conduct?

Codes of Conduct are a child protection device to assist the community in knowing what is appropriate conduct for adults when working with children.

The Adsafe Code of Conduct outlines the behavioural expections of church community members, persons in governance roles and persons appointed to child related roles.

The wider church community gets comfort from the fact that persons in these roles are committed to these behavioural expectations.

What is a child-related role?

Child-related roles includes any person:

  • Making leadership decisions in an entity that offers child services.

  • With unsupervised care of children.

  • With unsupervised access to children while performing regular duties.

  • With access to children’s information as a regular part of their duties.

  • In a role listed on the designated church/Conference child-related role schedule.

Who in the local church/company/group needs to complete their Adsafe requirements?

  1. Any adult aged 18 and over working or volunteering in a child-related role.

  2. Church Board members or equivalent groups making leadership decisions in the church.

Why do Board or leadership group members need to complete their Adsafe requirements?

The Board or Leadership Team has the responsibility for administering sound governance at the local church level. This governance includes being knowledgeable about, and giving advice on, the protection of children and people at risk. The governance role includes assessing and appropriatly managing child protection risks in the church's services and activities.

The Adsafe Policy requires that persons on the church Board or Leadership Team should meet the Adsafe requirements. The Policy is based on Christ’s commission and our church’s commitment to protect children and people at risk.

Church leaders set the tone for the culture of the church. Prevention of harm to vulnerable groups is the key to creating cultural change.

I’m a teacher (or other professional who works with children) with lots of child protection training. Do I need to do my Adsafe Training?

The content of the Adsafe Training is particularly geared towards your work in a church-related setting. Whilst there is likely to be some similarity between the church-related and school-related Training, completion of the Adsafe Training is necessary if you are volunteering/working in a church setting in a capacity that requires compliance. In the future there may be an option to complete an “add-on” Adsafe module if you have completed school-related child protection training.

How long is the Awareness Training current for?

Three years from the date of completion.

How often do I need to sign an Adsafe Code of Conduct?

The Code of Conduct needs only to be signed once, unless a new version is released by Adsafe. There is no need to sign it every year.

I’ve forgotten my user name and password – how do I find them out?

If your church/company/group has a Compliance Assistant, they will have your e-learning account linked to their Team View and will be able to advise you of your user name. If you do not have a local Compliance Assistant, contact the Safeguarding Team at Adsafe who can advise.

Your password is private to yourself, but once you know your user name, you can enter that information at the log-on screen and then click on “forgot password?”

I’ve finished my Awareness Training and Code of Conduct – do I get a Certificate?

There is no Certificate issued for your Code of Conduct, and the system does not automatically issue a Certificate for your Awareness Training. However, it is possible for you to generate a Certificate for your Awareness Training by:

  1. logging into your e-learning account at: https://elearning.adsafe.org.au/

  2. Click on Goal Centre (underneath the Adsafe logo at the top left-hand corner of your screen), then on the Completed button.

  3. Click on the right-facing arrow at the right-hand edge of the page to unpack details of your completed Awareness Training. The date you completed it will be displayed. To the right of that date is a square containing a badge symbol.

  4. Click on that square to download/save/print your Certificate.

How can I find out the expiry date for my Awareness Training?

  1. Log into your e-learning account at: https://elearning.adsafe.org.au/

  2. Click on Goal Centre (underneath the Adsafe logo at the top left-hand corner of your screen),

  3. then on the Completed button.

  4. Click on the right-facing arrow at the right-hand edge of the page to unpack details of your completed Awareness Training. The date you completed it will be displayed.

Why do I need to list my date of birth (DOB) and church attending in my e-learning account?

Listing your date of birth assists the Safeguarding staff to verify that they are accessing the correct account. It will also be useful when WWCC (or equivalent) details are able to be recorded in a person’s e-learning account.

Listing your church in your account enables Safeguarding staff to link your e-learning account to the ‘manager’ at your local church. Without this information and linkage, your local ‘manager’ is unable to monitor your compliance data.

I created an e-learning account but the Training and Code of Conduct are not showing up in my account to complete.

The Awareness Training and Code of Conduct are activated into your account by virtue of the job positions you place into the Job Position field. Only child-related roles (eg Sabbath Schools for under 18s, Adventurers, Pathfinders, Children’s Ministries, VBS, creche), Elder and Board Member/Leadership Team will automatically activate the Awareness Training and Code of Conduct.

If you are in job positions other than these, contact your local Compliance Assistant or the Safeguarding Team at Adsafe for advice.

I can’t get past a certain module or a quiz

The on-line Training is set up to ensure that you complete each module and successfully answer the questions in each quiz. To allow progression to the next module/quiz, you need to watch each video and unpack various tabs.

Why does each person creating an e-learning account need a unique email address?

The email address is used by the e-learning platform to send you activation emails, forgot password emails, reminders that your Training is due to renew and other important information. For privacy and accuracy reasons, this information should only be shared with the person who owns the account.

I am trying to create an account and I have received a message saying that there are illegal characters in my name. What should I do?

The e-learning platform does not like spaces before or after names. Check that there are no spaces either before or after your first name or surname.

I am doing my Training and have received an error message : failed to register component to SCORM engine.

If you receive this message, please contact Adsafe

I have a current Working With Children Check (or equivalent). What do I do with that information?
